Dr. Charles A. Taylor
Dr. Charles A. Taylor currently serves as the President of Bauder College in Atlanta, Georgia. Before joining Bauder College, Dr. Taylor served as the President of Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia. Dr. Taylor has over 35 years of experience in post-secondary education serving in many different capacities.
Dr. Taylor's career in higher education includes service as Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance/Chief Operating Officer at Peralta Community College District in Oakland, California; Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer with Community Colleges of Spokane in Washington State; and four years as President/Chief Executive Officer at St. Philip's College in San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, he was Vice President of Student Affairs at Kellogg Community College in Michigan and has held administrative appointments in Illinois and Maryland. In addition to extensive administrative experience, Dr. Taylor held faculty positions teaching in several departments at Loyola University of Chicago, including the Department of Counseling, Psychology, and Higher Education. He also taught English at St. Philip's College.
Throughout his career, Dr. Taylor has served on various community and civic organizations, including chambers of commerce, economic development councils, workforce development organizations, Rotary, and local foundations. He has also served on a number of national boards, including the American Association of Community Colleges, American Council on Education Commission of Advancement of Racial and Ethnic Equity, and the Association of Community College Trustees President Advisory Board.
Among Dr. Taylor's numerous awards and honors are University of Maryland/Baltimore County's Distinguished Alumnus of the Year (1997), National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development's Teaching Excellence Award, and the 2000 Pioneer's Award from National Council on Black American Affairs.
Dr. Taylor is a native of Baltimore, Maryland; he has a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Maryland/Baltimore County, a master's degree in education from the Johns Hopkins University, and a doctoral degree in educational administration and supervision from Loyola University of Chicago. In 2008, he received an honorary doctoral degree in humane letters from Old Dominion University.
Dr. Taylor currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia and is married to Dr. Scheherazade Taylor, who has a doctoral degree in health systems and nursing administration from the University of Michigan. They have four children.
